Defining Passion

Pas•sion – any powerful or compelling emotion or feeling.

A life filled with passion is the ultimate dream. It’s something many of us strive for, and too few of us achieve. Why? Simple, we let the worries, stress, and negativities of life seep into our brains where they slowly spread throughout our being as though we are suffering from a silent and deadly disease. A disease which, if we are not careful, can consume us.

Until we decide to rid ourselves of that all-consuming disease.

The cure? Passion!

Where disease breeds in darkness, passion flourishes in light. Passion is an emotion that has the power to initiate positive actions. Passion has the power to elevate and enlighten.

Passion is the ultimate dream-maker.

Defining Passion

When you define your passions and embrace them, there is a shift in the way you view your life and the world around you.

In order to define your passions, you must first look within. Think about the things that make you infinitely happy. The things that give you a sudden burst of energy. The things that debilitate the darkness, the worry, the stress, the negativity. The things that make you smile from ear to ear, and your body tingle all over. That is when you will start to define your passions.

For me, my main passion has always been travel. Travel has always been that one thing that made the most unbearably stressful day bearable. And after years of yearning to embrace my passion for travel I quit my job and embraced it. I pursued my passion for travel for four years, and then something happened. I realised – while sitting on a train in Jasper, Alberta – that travel was not my only passion in life, and that although I adore travelling, I was missing my other passions. And that is when it hit me. Why should I focus on creating a life centred around one passion? I should be designing a life around all of my passions. I should be designing a passionate lifestyle that embraces everything I love about life!

Make A List

As I sat on the train in Jasper, Alberta I started making a mental list of my passions. If I’m going to design a passionate lifestyle I need to define what my passions are, and how I want to incorporate them into my life on a regular basis. Which is what I want you to do this week.

Your Task: Spend some time this week thinking about the things that make you happy, the things that you are passionate about. Then sit down and make a list of the passions you want to incorporate into your everyday life. The passions that will help you design your very own passionate lifestyle. Just list the passions for now. Example: my passions are travel, photography, good food, quality relationships.

Designing a Passionate Lifestyle

Living a life filled with passion is my main goal. I want a lifestyle that makes me infinitely happy. A lifestyle where I am defined by the positive things I bring into the world, rather than being defined by my mistakes (and wow, I have made some bad mistakes). It’s about embracing the positive energy and giving positive energy.

Making a lifestyle change is not easy, but it is worth it – as long as you do it with purpose, set goals.

Knowing and defining what your passions are is a HUGE part of designing a passionate lifestyle. Its the first step in saying, “Okay, I’m going to do this. I’m going to kick all the negative energy around me in the gonads and I’m going to take change”. Think of it as becoming your very own superhero – with a cape and a tiara and everything!

Once you have defined what your passions are and you’ve written them down, come back here next Sunday and we’ll chat about how to incorporate those passions into your life and how to start designing a passionate lifestyle. This is something I am doing right now (designing a passionate lifestyle) and I want to share my journey, advice, and tips with you. Hopefully some of you will find this helpful and in turn, you’ll help others do the same.

A life wrapped in positivity can be hard in today’s world, but it’s not impossible. YOU can decide to embrace your passions and fill your life with light. If you have questions you’d like me to answer in the next post, or just want to chat about your passions feel free to leave a comment, or send me an email (pamela.macnaughtan@gmail.com). I will answer you!

We are taught so often that money=happiness, and we should ignore what we truly LOVE in order to have SUCCESS because success=money=happiness.

I’ve spent a bit of time ruminating on this lately. Especially after just last week when I read a part of a book called beach bum millionaire. Part of it basically said “look at the sad old academic, despite the expensive and long education, this person still has a crappy job and makes no money and is therefore unhappy”. That one part of the book got me really annoyed. Probably because I love the academic world and couldn’t imagine anyone being there unless they were passionate about learning, research and education.

    I think I’m rambling here.

The car that you drive and the clothes that you wear are irrelevant to happiness or fulfilment or even money.

After reading that shitty book I started thinking about what makes me happy. Its not money and traditional success. Its having employment that I enjoy, its writing, its travel, eating fresh food…. Its making art, making music. I don’t need money to do any of those things.

    thought provoking post!

I had to comment twice I liked this post so much.

I hope you write about this topic more. Too many bloggers don’t write about passion authentically.

I have been thinking a lot about this lately, too. I’m trying to focus on a way to make money based on my hobbies and passions, but sometimes it becomes unclear or overwhelming to manage all of these thoughts. Do you have any recommendations for focusing your passions into actions?
